Head of National Assembly Delegation to Parliamentary Dimension of Central European Initiative Meets with CEI Deputy Secretary General

The Head of the National Assembly’s standing delegation to the Parliamentary Dimension of the Central European Initiative (CEI) Dr Aleksandra Tomic met today, at the National Assembly, with CEI Deputy Secretary General Erik Csernovitz to discuss regional cooperation and future activities and projects within the Central European Initiative.


CEI Deputy Secretary General Erik Csernovitz said that Serbia is a very important CEI member due to its central position in the region. Csernovitz said that, in view of the current situation and the damages done by the floods in the region last year, a project is being drafted on flood risk management and early warning system. The project is financed by EU funds and will be conducted by the Regional Environmental Centre (REC) in Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, said the CEI Deputy Secretary General. He said that the project aims to strengthen the flood risk management capacities of local self-governments and local civil society organisations.

The Head of the National Assembly’s standing delegation to CEI Parliamentary Dimension Dr Aleksandra Tomic highlighted the importance of cooperation among the countries of the Central European region opining that the abovementioned project is very important for Serbia. Aleksandra Tomic added that Serbia had recently adopted a National Natural Disaster Risk Management Programme which is the framework for the drafting of the natural disaster protection and prevention policy.

Emphasising the importance of regional cooperation the officials discussed future activities and business forums to be organised within the Central European Initiative relating to energy, agricultural production, rural development, green economy and regional road infrastructure.
