Dialogue Held for MPs – Parliament in Focus, Types of Cooperation with Political Groups in Europe

Today, the National Assembly House hosted a dialogue for the MPs, organised by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation and the European Movement in Serbia, titled Parliament in Focus - Types of Cooperation with Political Groups in Europe.

Greeting the participants, the Director of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation Belgrade office, Henri Bohnet, said that what is crucial in the international cooperation between political parties is strengthening the individual capacities of the MPs who should use the mechanisms at their disposal, especially the ones related to oversight of the executive.
MP Natasa Vuckovic, member of the National Assembly’s delegation to PACE and Vice-Chairperson of the PACE Socialist Group, spoke of her experience in cooperating with MPs on the international level. She said that the MPs’ participation in these organisations helps improve their efforts and promotes the organisation and strengthening of the political parties’ parliamentary capacities.
MP Elvira Kovacs, Vice-Chairperson of the PACE Group of European People’s Party, briefed the participants on the Group’s manner of operation and decision-making.
The discussion, also involving MPs Neven Cveticanin, Jelena Travar Miljevic and Gordana Comic, focused on international cooperation between political parties in light of Serbia’s European Union accession, political ideologies in modern society, decision-making in international organisations and the importance of investing into education.
Prof. Dr Zoran Stojiljkovic, professor of the Belgrade Faculty of Political Sciences and co-author of the book Political Groups in Europe which was presented at today’s gathering, also took part in the discussion.
