The Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with the PFG with the Countries of Southeast Asia (Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam) meets with the Malaysian Charge d’Affaires in Serbia, Miroslav Petrasinovic, and the PFG members, met, in the National Assembly House, with the Charge d'Affaires of the Kingdom of Malaysia in Serbia, Carmallia Budiaty Che Embi.

Petrasinovic emphasised the importance of parliamentary diplomacy and the role of friendship groups in strengthening mutual understanding and cooperation between the two countries. He stressed that the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia remains committed to developing relations with the countries of Southeast Asia, especially in the fields of economy, education, tourism and cultural exchange.

The PFG Head pointed out that full membership in the EU is a strategic priority for Serbia, noting that our country remains consistent in pursuing a sovereign, independent and militarily neutral foreign policy. He also took the opportunity to inform the guest about the difficult position of the Serbian people in Kosovo-Metohija, who are exposed to frequent violations of human and civil rights, saying that from the beginning of the year to 14 June, there have been 49 ethnically motivated attacks on Serbs. Petrasinovic also reminded that Pristina has not implemented its internationally undertaken obligations from the Brussels Agreement 13 years later, including the formation of the Community of Serb Municipalities.

The Malaysian Charge d'Affaires thanked the PFG for the opportunity to talk and stressed the readiness to further deepen cooperation between Serbia and Malaysia. During the conversation, she presented the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP), which aims to support the education and professional development of personnel from developing countries, and listed the opportunities that this programme offers to Serbian citizens through various forms of training and scholarships in Malaysia.

Referring to the upcoming EXPO 2027 Specialized Exhibition in Belgrade, Petrasinovic emphasized that this event represents a unique opportunity to present Serbia to the international public and further improve cooperation with numerous countries. He recalled that a large number of countries have already confirmed their participation in the exhibition and invited the Kingdom of Malaysia to reconsider the possibility of joining this important international event.

The officials assessed that there is significant room for further improvement of bilateral relations, especially in the areas of trade, new technologies and investments. They highlighted the establishment of a visa-free regime as an important step toward strengthening cooperation, emphasising that such a step would further stimulate economic ties and tourism, as well as contribute to the comprehensive development of relations between the two countries.

The meeting was attended by PFG members Nikola Radosavljevic and Dobrica Veselinovic, who also expressed interest and readiness to further improve cooperation between the two countries, especially in the fields of economy, tourism and energy.
