The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Ana Brnabic, met today with a delegation of staffers of the United States Congress.
The staffers are professional civil servants and political advisors who work for members of the US Congress, both the Senate and the House of Representatives. Today's meeting in the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia was attended by staffers from the offices of Congresswoman Claudia Tenney, Chairwoman of the Serbian Caucus in the US House of Representatives, Anna Paulina Luna of Florida, Scott Fitzgerald of Wisconsin, Pat Harrigan of North Carolina, Brad Schneider of Illinois, Jen Kiggans of Virginia, and Sam Grains of Missouri.
Speaker Brnabic told to the US guests that Serbia's strategic goal is membership in the European Union, and that Serbia wants to build the best possible relations with the United States. When a Congressional staffer noted that a visit to the US would be an excellent step in strengthening parliamentary cooperation, the Parliament Speaker said that she was working hard on it and hoped to visit in the near future.
The participants of the meeting also discussed the current geopolitical situation in Europe and the world, ways to further deepen cooperation between Serbia and the US, and economic and political cooperation between the two countries.
The staff delegation is visiting Belgrade for four days, and the visit was organised as part of the MECEA (Mutual Educational and Cultural Exchange Act) programme, which our side concluded with the US Congress in 2015. During their stay, they will also meet with the Parliamentary Friendship Group with the United States of America, chaired by MA Milovan Drecun.
