National Assembly Deputy Speaker Marina Ragus Meets with Tunisia - Serbia PFG Delegation

National Assembly Deputy Speaker and Chairperson of the Foreign Affairs Committee, Marina Ragus, met today at the National Assembly with a delegation of the Tunisia – Serbia Parliamentary Friendship Group of the Assembly of People’s Representatives of the Republic of Tunisia, headed by Najla Lahiani, member of the Committee on Education, Vocational Training, Research, Youth and Sports.

National Assembly Deputy Speaker Marina Ragus stressed that this year we are celebrating 70 years of diplomatic relations, that friendly relations and closeness between our peoples date back to the First World War, and that this year we are marking 110 years since the landing of the Serbian army in Bizerte.

Marina Ragus thanked the Republic of Tunisia for its support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Republic of Serbia and for its consistent position of non-recognition of the unilaterally declared independence of so-called Kosovo. She informed the attendees about the difficult situation of the Serbian people in Kosovo-Metohija, faced with frequent violations of human and civil rights, and stated that Pristina has not fulfilled its internationally recognised obligations under the Brussels Agreement for 13 years, such as the formation of the Community of Serb Municipalities.

She stressed that, despite the injustice it still suffers today, including the ghettoization of the Serbian people in Kosovo-Metohija, Serbia remains committed to preserving peace and stability, as well as respecting international law, the United Nations Charter and applicable international resolutions and conventions that guarantee peace and security in the region. She recalled that the NATO aggression against the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia in 1999 represented a precedent in international relations, which, as she stated, was a prelude to the de facto seizure of part of Serbia's territory, leaving lasting geopolitical consequences.

Najla Lahiani, member of the Commission for Education, Vocational Training, Research, Youth and Sports, thanked the host for the warm welcome and conveyed the greetings of the President of the Tunisian the Assembly of People’s Representatives. She took the opportunity to praise the positive trends at the level of parliamentary visits and expressed her belief that successful cooperation will continue and be further improved, not only through more intensive political and parliamentary dialogue, but also through strengthening the ties between our peoples. She pointed out the importance of bilateral agreements and expressed the expectation that in the coming period, work will be done on their further implementation and improvement, in order to provide additional benefits to the citizens of both countries.

The representative of the Tunisian delegation confirmed her country's participation in the upcoming EXPO 2027 Specialized Exhibition and expressed her belief that the event represents an exceptional opportunity to further strengthen bilateral relations, improve economic and investment cooperation, as well as to more intensively connect the institutions and citizens of the two countries.

The officials agreed that there is significant room for further intensification of cooperation, especially in the areas of digitalisation, information technologies, economy, education and other. Both sides expressed their readiness to continue dialogue and concrete cooperation at all levels, with the aim of strengthening mutual understanding and improving relations.

The meeting was also attended by the Ambassador of the Republic of Tunisia to the Republic of Serbia, Imen Laajili Ammari, who particularly emphasised that the Republic of Serbia and the Republic of Tunisia are connected by traditionally good and friendly relations, assessing that such visits contribute to strengthening mutual trust, deepening cooperation in all areas of common interest and bringing the two peoples even closer together.
