Meeting of PFGs with Serbia and Korea

The Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with the Republic of Korea, Vladimir Pajic, and PFG members Prof. Dr Jelena Jerinic, MA Jadranka Jovanovic and Ljubica Vranes, met in the National Assembly with the delegation of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Serbia in the Parliament of the Republic of Korea, headed by Kim Yong-min.

Expressing satisfaction with the visit of the Korean parliamentary delegation, the Head of the Friendship Group Vladimir Pajic underlined his belief that this visit will contribute to the further strengthening of cooperation between the two countries and its improvement in a large number areas, from economy to culture.

Kim Yong-min stressed that Serbia is becoming an increasingly important European partner to the Republic of Korea and recalled the recently signed Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, which should contribute to expanding the scope of economic cooperation between the two countries.

The officials agreed that there is significant room for strengthening the presence of Korean companies on the Serbian market, especially in the areas of artificial intelligence and energy development. Vladimir Pajic pointed to the continuous growth of the IT sector in Serbia in recent years, primarily thanks to the development of small and medium-sized enterprises, and emphasised that this potential should be further developed through cooperation with partner countries, such as the Republic of Korea.

The members of the Parliamentary Friendship Group, Prof. Dr Jelena Jerinic, MA Jadranka Jovanovic and Ljubica Vranes, exchanged experiences with their Korean colleagues as regards the representation of women in national and local parliaments, pointing out the importance of the legal obligation that at least 40% of candidates on electoral lists be women.

The MPs also said that certain experiences of the Republic of Korea could be of particular interest to Serbia, primarily in the areas of public procurement, crisis management in the case of natural disasters and public health. They emphasised that, in addition to developing cooperation in the automotive industry and artificial intelligence, it would be important to improve cooperation in the areas of education, culture and the pharmaceutical industry.
