On 19 November 2002 members of the Committee on Defence and Security visited Belgrade Police Department. At a meeting held during the visit, the chief of the Department, Milan Obradovic, acquainted the members of the Committee with the structure of the Department and announced that it would be re-structured in 2003. He cited lack of funds as the reason why the Department was poorly equipped, quoting statisctics which showed that the complement of Belgrade Police was only 56 percent of the required number, and added that there was a problem of a lack of trained personnel.
The meeting also discussed the Act on the Organisation and Competencies of State Bodies in Combating Organised Crime and the deficiencies of the Act on Criminal Proceedings. With reference to this, the need was stressed for amendments and modifications to the Act.
After the meeting, members of the Committee visited the Command and Operations Centre and the newly-opened Belgrade Police Department Information Centre.
