The National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia will host the Global Conference of Women Parliamentarians (GCWP), under the auspices of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), from 2 to 4 June 2026.
The conference will be officially opened by the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Ana Brnabic, on June 2 at 9 am, while a gala dinner will be held for the guests the evening before the opening.
Belgrade will host 427 participants from 65 countries over the course of three days, 293 of which are women and 134 are men. Among them are 206 parliamentarians, including 162 female MPs and 44 male MPs.
Participation was confirmed by five member states of the Inter-Parliamentary Union Executive Committee (Azerbaijan, Peru, Poland, Qatar and the UK) and 23 associate members, permanent observers and organisations: the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, Equality Now, the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association of the United Kingdom (CPA UK), the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA), the Horn and East Africa Parliamentary Institute (HEAPI), the Global Network for Research and Knowledge Sharing on Care (GCERN), the Global Parliament for Tolerance and Peace, MenEngage, the non-governmental organisation Musawah, the National Democratic Institute (NDI), ODIHR, the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM), TURKPA, ShePersisted, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (UN CEDAW Committee), UNESCO, UNITE, UN Women and the United Nations (Office in Serbia).
The conference will be attended by five female heads of parliaments and senates, namely Agnes Forsthoffer, Speaker of the National Assembly of Hungary, Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of the Milli Mejlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Tanzila Narbaeva, President of the Senate of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Mabel Memory Chinomona, President of the Senate of the Republic of Zimbabwe, and Mamonaheng Mokitimi, President of the Senate of the Kingdom of Lesotho.
In addition, the following highest representatives of international parliamentary organisations have also confirmed their participation: Tullia Ackson, President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Martin Chungong, Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Anda Filip, Secretary General-elect of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Petra Bayr, President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Pere Joan Pons Sampietro, President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, Cynthia López Castro, President of the Bureau of Women Parliamentarians of the Inter-Parliamentary Union. The conference will also be attended by 16 deputy speakers of parliaments.
From the European Union member states, delegations from 12 member states have confirmed their participation: Belgium, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Latvia, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain and Sweden.
Other significant partner countries are also represented, including Canada, the United Kingdom, China, Japan, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar.
