PFG with US Meets with Professional Civil Servants and Political Advisors to US Congress Members
The members of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with the US met today with a delegation of professional civil servants and political advisors to members of the US Congress, who are visiting Serbia.
The Head of the PFG with the US, MA Milovan Drecun, informed the delegation about the scope of the PFG's work, emphasising that it is one of the largest in the National Assembly. He said that relations between Serbia and the US are dynamic, progressive and promising, despite burdensome factors, and that our country is committed to building a long-term comprehensive partnership with the US. Drecun emphasised that our relations have a long history and that the start of a strategic dialogue between the two countries will be a crucial step in building an advanced partnership, cooperation and better mutual understanding. He emphasized the MPs’ readiness and desire to improve and intensify relations and cooperation with colleagues from the US Congress. The Head of the PFG also reminded that Serbia's strategic commitment is full membership in the EU, but also that Serbia pursues an independent policy and is a militarily neutral country. He emphasised that Serbia is committed to resolving the issue of Kosovo-Metohija in a peaceful, political manner, as well as to respecting the Dayton framework for Bosnia and Herzegovina, and that with such an attitude towards these two key issues in the region, it is making the greatest contribution to preserving peace and stability.
Drecun reminded that Serbia has achieved the highest possible level of cooperation with NATO, and particularly highlighted the cooperation with the Ohio National Guard, which shows that Serbia is a factor of stability and that by strengthening its defence capacities it does not threaten anyone, but rather deters risks and threats to its own security. As the most important country in the region, striving for peace, stability, and economic development and cooperation, Serbia has exceptional potential for cooperation with American companies, especially in the areas of infrastructure, energy, scientific and technological development, and artificial intelligence.
In the conversation with the associates of American congressmen, the Head of the PFG with the US expressed concern about the position of the Serbian people in Kosovo-Metohija, and pointed out the unilateral moves of Pristina contrary to Resolution 1244 and the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue. He informed the guests about the unacceptably low level of basic human rights of Serbs in Kosovo-Metohija, about the terrible institutional and physical terror the PISG are carrying out against the Serbian people, about the thwarting of the work of Serbian institutions, without which Serbs cannot survive in Kosovo-Metohija, as well as about the unacceptable policy of the PISG of "quiet" ethnic cleansing of Serbs. He added that Serbia will not recognise the so-called independence of Kosovo and that it will resolve this issue peacefully, while insisting on the establishment of the Community of Serb Municipalities. Drecun also expressed his concern about the establishment of a trilateral military alliance of Croatia, Albania and the so-called Kosovo and warned that the formation of various paramilitary and parapolice forces in Kosovo-Metohija has an anti-Serbian character and that these formations, which are contrary to UN Security Council Resolution 1244, represent a factor that poses the greatest threat to the security and survival of Serbs in Kosovo-Metohija. Assessing that our geopolitical situation is complex and complicated, Drecun emphasised that cooperation and the beginning of a strategic dialogue with the US are of exceptional importance for Serbia and advocated for intensifying cooperation with colleagues from the US Congress.
The meeting with the delegation of professional officials and political advisors to members of the US Congress was also attended by PFG members Prof.Dr Sci.med. Marija Zdravkovic and Milos Gnjidic.
