National Assembly Delegation to IPU Meets with Bahraini Delegation

National Assembly Deputy Speaker and member of the delegation to the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Edin Djerlek, and delegation member Ivana Stamatovic and MP Olivera Denic, met with the parliamentary delegation of Bahrain, on the sidelines of the Global Conference of Women Parliamentarians (GCWP), currently underway in Belgrade.

Edin Djerlek emphasized that this meeting is a good opportunity to strengthen ties between the parliaments of Bahrain and Serbia and pointed out that it would be useful to organize an exchange of visits between parliamentary delegations in the coming period.

He assessed that relations between our two countries are traditionally good and thanked Bahrain for the medical assistance it provided to Serbia during the COVID-19 pandemic.

He also mentioned the successful cooperation between the chambers of commerce, adding that it is possible to deepen cooperation in the areas of the IT sector and agriculture.

The head of the Bahraini delegation, Mohammed Ali, highlighted the importance of the topics being discussed at the IPU Global Conference of Women Parliamentarians, and the participants of the meeting agreed that it is important to strengthen the role of women in society, the parliament and the decision-making processes.

The officials also agreed that Serbia and Bahrain are similar in terms of interethnic and religious tolerance and peaceful coexistence of different peoples.
