Parliamentary State Secretary in the Ministry of the Interior of the Federal Republic of Germany Dr Ole Schröder is in official visit to the Republic of Serbia on 29 and 30 March 2011. On the second day of the visit, Dr Schröder and his associates visited the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia.

In the course of his visit he met with the head and members of the Parliamentary Friendship Group of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia with the Federal Republic of Germany, deputies Bosko Ristic, Prof. Dr Dragoljub Micunovic, Srdjan Mikovic, Suzana Grubjesic, Elvira Kovacs, Branko Ruzic, Goran Stefanovic, Miroslav Marinkovic and Dusan Milisavljevic.

Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group Bosko Ristic thanked the guests for the cooperation, as well as Germany’s assistance to Serbia in education and exchange of experiences in the work of civil servants and deputies. In addition, on the behalf of the National Assembly Ristic thanked them for the gift of technical equipment for the detection of forged passports that Dr Schröder presented to the Ministry of Interior.

They discussed the tasks awaiting the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia in ensuring that Serbia achieves its goal – EU candidacy status. They also deemed that the legislative processes and the parliament’s control role should be intensified.

One of the topics of conversation was the misuse of asylum. Dr Schröder stated that 5,000 Serbian citizens request asylum in FR Germany every year. Both sides agreed to intensify cooperation in resolving the issue of asylum-seekers in future.

In the continuation of the visit, Dr Schröder and associates attended part of the National Assembly’s plenary session and on the occasion the National Assembly Speaker Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic greeted them on the behalf of the deputies and herself.
