National Assembly Speaker Meets with Norwegian Permanent Representative to OSCE

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Ana Brnabic, met today with the Permanent Representative of Norway to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), Ellen Svendsen.

The Speaker said that Serbia values the role of the OSCE very highly, its independent institutions and missions on the ground, as well as the help they provide us. She particularly emphasised the cooperation with the ODIHR and its expert support in improving the electoral system, legislative framework and the entire electoral environment, adding that she will continue to strive to ensure that the Working Group dealing with the aforementioned topics does not waste time and is as efficient as possible.

She thanked the OSCE Mission in Serbia and Ambassador Jan Braathu, who also attended the meeting, for the support in many important socially responsible issues that concern the citizens, which this organization provides to the institutions in our country. She said that they are currently working on OSCE-Serbian Parliament projects which include a gender audit of the National Assembly and the establishment of a Green Resource Centre, which would provide MPs with the opportunity to receive true and relevant information regarding environmental issues from experts.

Svendsen praised the Speaker's personal commitment to improving the electoral conditions in Serbia, as well as the inclusion of representatives of civil society organizations and non-governmental organizations and their appointment to a leadership position within the Working Group as a strong signal, not only in Serbia, but everywhere in the world.
