National Assembly Speaker Meets with Chinese National People's Congress Vice Chairman

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Ana Brnabic met today with the Vice Chairman of the Chinese National People's Congress Cai Dafeng who is heading the delegation visiting Serbia to take part in the Overseas Chinese World Conference for Promoting Peaceful Reunification of China which Belgrade hosted yesterday.

Speaker Brnabic said that the importance of the Overseas Chinese World Conference for Promoting Peaceful Reunification of China is primarily reflected in the moment it takes place – this moment when it has never been more important to be reminded of the fights against fascism and separatism, and of respecting international legal norms and territorial integrity and sovereignty o states.

The Speaker welcomed the delegation and stressed how pleased she was to be able to host her Chinese colleagues, which is yet another proof of how important Serbia considers its parliamentary cooperation with the People’s Republic of China, stressing that the relations between the two countries have reached the highest level since the establishment of diplomatic relations, thanks to presidents Vucic and Xi Jinping, and that overall strategic partnership was deepened during the historic visit of the Chinese President to Serbia in May 2024 when a record number of high-level agreements and documents was signed that pave the road to further cooperation.

The meeting was also attended by the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia and Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with the People's Republic of China, Marina Ragus who said that it is important for the two parliamentary institutions’ committees to, as it logically follows, launch an even stronger cooperation. Ragus added that at yesterday’s conference, the participants adopted the Belgrade Declaration, of which our country is very proud.

Vice Chairman Dafeng thanked the National Assembly Speaker for her support and efforts to cultivate and promote the friendship between Serbia and China, as well as support in the organisation of a successful conference in our capital. He agreed that parliamentary cooperation is tremendously important and that future work would contribute to its advancement.
