The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic, heading a National Assembly delegation in an official visit to the Australian Parliament, established intense contacts in Sydney. Australian Parliament member, Roger Price organised a working lunch in honour of the Serbian Assembly’s delegation where the relations between Serbia and Australia, as well as future parliamentary cooperation between the two countries was discussed. It was agreed that the cooperation between the two parliaments be discussed in more detail in the upcoming meetings between the Serbian Assembly’s delegation, headed the National Assembly Speaker, and the Speakers of Australia’s House of Representatives and Senate in Canberra.

The delegation visited the Macquarie University, where it talked to Professor Max Coltheart at the University Research Centre. The National Assembly Speaker also gave an interview to the SBS network.

In the afternoon of the second day of the visit, the Assembly Speaker met with representatives of the Serbian diaspora in Australia. The representatives of the diaspora briefed the Serbian delegation on the basic elements of their position, work and activities in Australia. On the occasion, they organised a cultural-artistic programme and dinner for the Serbian Assembly’s delegation.

The Serbian delegation continues its visit tomorrow with meetings at the Australian Parliament in Canberra.
