National Assembly Delegation Takes Part in Western European Union Assembly Session

The session was dedicated to current issues regarding the Common Security and Defense Policy in the EU (CSDP), particularly parliamentary control over the field, and issues relating to NATO and other current security and defense issues in
Head of the Serbian delegation Vesna Marjanovic spoke in the debate on the report of the Western European Union Assembly on the “Implementation of the Lisbon Treaty: current debate on CSDP monitoring in national parliaments”. On the occasion she mentioned the general trend of deepening the democratic deficit of the European Union and decreasing the role of national parliaments in the EU integration process. Regarding it, she highlighted the important role of the parliamentarians in the control of defense and security and particularly the role of the national parliaments of the countries which are yet to become European Union members.
