Head of the Standing Delegation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia to the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy, Aleksandar Cotric and deputy Nenad Popovic took part in the 17th regular session of said assembly, held in Dubrovnik from 14 to 17 February 2011.

The session, titled Results of the multicultural project in modern Europe and problems of national spiritual identity, was organised by the International Fund of Unity of Orthodox Peoples, with headquarters in Moscow.

Head of the National Assembly delegation Aleksandar Cotric pointed out the need to employ negotiations in seeking a solution to the Kosovo-Metohija issue which would both be mutually acceptable and guarantee peace and stability in this very sensitive and significant part of Europe and the world. He also stressed that the first step in Serbia’s pro-European orientation should be fostering good relations with its neighbours in the region.

Cotric urged the parliamentary representatives of the states who took part in the meeting to help the Serbian population in Kosovo-Metohija preserve their endangered cultural and spiritual heritage which is also an important part of the European Christian tradition.

On the behalf of the host, the participants of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy were greeted by Croatian Parliament Speaker Luka Bebic, and representatives of the Serbian Orthodox Church, Catholic Church and the Islamic religious community took part in the session.

Representatives of 21 countries took part in the Conference, among them deputies from the parliaments of Serbia, Russia, Greece, Ukraine, Belarus, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Cyprus, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania, Bulgaria and Kazakhstan.
