At the sitting held on 18 December, the Committee on Petitions and Proposals discussed the Observation Report on the Activities of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Committee on Petitions and Proposals for the January-June 2007 period.

The sitting was chaired by the Committee Chairman, Dragan Colic.

The Committee members discussed the Activity Report in detail pointing out that the largest number of received complaints concerns the work of judiciary organs and organs of state administration. A number of complaints concerns the issues from the fields of labour law, social protection, housing, health protection and privatisation process.

In the discussion, the Committee members stated that the Committee’s role in dealing with specific complaints by the citizens, should be more active. The need for media coverage of the Committee’s work was especially emphasised, considering its importance for the citizens. The work of the expert service had also been commended, and the Committee members reached an agreement to hold Committee sittings more frequently and organise them by topic.

The Committee went on to consider the proposal of the Union Workers Movement of “Zelvoz” enterprise from Smederevo concerning the upcoming privatisation of said enterprise.

The Committee members unanimously brought a Conclusion to request an opinion on this specific proposal from the Privatisation Agency and the Privatisation Committee, as the authorised National Assembly Committee.

Following the discussion, the Committee unanimously accepted the Observation Report on the Activities of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Committee on Petitions and Proposals for the January-June 2007 period.
