A delegation of the Foreign Affairs and European Integrations Committees, headed by Prof. Dr Dragoljub Micunovic and Laszlo Varga, met today at the National Assembly House with an Austrian parliamentary delegation headed by the Parliament Speaker, Brabara Prammer. It was concluded that Serbia and Austria enjoy good bilateral relations, but that there was still room to improve parliamentary cooperation further.

The Austrian Parliament Speaker expressed pleasure at the abolition of visas for Serbian citizens traveling to European Union countries and progress in deblocking the Transitional Trade Agreement between Serbia and the EU.

Chairmen Micunovic and Varga thanked Parliament Speaker Prammer for Austria’s involvement in aiding Serbia onto the Schengen white list which would prompt further reform on the road to the European Union.

The Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Dragoljub Micunovic pointed out the favourable conditions for the development of good political, economic and cultural relations between the two countries. Austria is one of the biggest investors into Serbian economy, and the two countries are also connected by the considerable Serbian diaspora in Austria, Micunovic said.

The European Integrations Committee Chairman Laszlo Varga advocated establishing closer cooperation between parliamentary committees dealing with European integration issues at the parliaments of EU member states and the countries yet to reach that status.
