The Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee, Prof. Dr Dragoljub Micunovic paid an official visit to the Republic of Slovenia on 6 and 7 April.

During the visit, Micunovic was received by the highest ranking state officials of the Republic of Slovenia – the President of the Republic of Slovenia Dr Danilo Türk, Prime Minister Borut Pahor and National Assembly Speaker Dr Pavel Gantar. At the Slovenian Parliament he talked to the Foreign Affairs Committee delegation headed by its Chairperson Janja Klasinc who is also the president of the Friendship Group with Serbia. Micunovic also met with the Slovenian Prime Minister Borut Pahor and Foreign Minister Samuel Zbogar.

In the meetings, the cooperation between the two states was estimated as favourable as well as Serbia and Slovenia’s shared wish to have the best possible relations even with Slovenia’s recognition of Kosovo independence and some open issues, primarily property issues of Serbian and Slovenian enterprises.

In the talks, Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Dragoljub Micunovic briefed his hosts on the situation in Kosovo-Metohija stressing that Serbia focused on finding a peaceful solution to the matter by diplomatic means in line with European standards. We are expecting the ruling of the International Court of Justice on the legality of the unilaterally declared independence, said Micunovic, and new talks to find a solution the final result of which would not allow one side to gain everything.

Slovenian President Danilo Türk agreed with the estimate that new talks are needed in order to come up with a just solution of the Kosovo issue.

The Slovenian officials stated that they support Serbia’s accession to the European Union. They stressed that Serbia is one of the most important destinations for their investors, and that Serbian capital is welcome in Slovenia too in order to improve economic cooperation to the both sides’ benefit.

During the meetings, the Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman brought up the issue of how Serbs residing in Slovenia might gain the status of ethnic minority. During the visit, Dragoljub Micunovic also held a lecture at the Ljubljana Faculty of Political Science.
