First Direct Belgrade – Astana Flight Lands at Nikola Tesla Airport

The first flight of the new Belgrade – Astana direct line landed this morning around 2.20 am at the Nikola Tesla Airport and was welcomed by the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Ana Brnabic.

“This marks the beginning of direct air traffic between Astana and Belgrade, that is, Kazakhstan and Serbia. It is truly impressive how quickly we have achieved this - truly impressive. I want to thank our friends from Kazakhstan for their hard work on this important project," said Brnabic.

She pointed out that the discussion about introducing a new line was initiated in September last year during the visit of Kazakh President Kassym Tokayev to Serbia.

"Tokayev and Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic met in Moscow in May this year. At that time, Vucic had a message for the citizens of Serbia, that a direct airline would soon be introduced. And practically six months later, that promise was fulfilled and we have a direct flight," Brnabic said.

"When President Tokayev visited Serbia last year, we signed 10 bilateral agreements, and the fact that we now have a direct flight will also contribute to much better political and economic cooperation, as well as cooperation at the level of people. We expect a much larger number of tourists from Kazakhstan, but we also expect our people and businessmen to visit Kazakhstan, and to strengthen what is called in English - people to people relationships," she said.
