Today at the National Assembly House, the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee, Prof. Dr Dragoljub Micunovic had two separate meetings with the Ambassadors of the Kingdom of Holland and the Republic of Italy, Ron J.P.M. van Dartel and Armando Vаrricchio respectively.

The Dutch Ambassador stressed Holland’s support of Serbia’s European perspective adding that it will constructively endorse Serbia’s entry into the European Union, but only after Serbia had reached full cooperation with The Hague Tribunal. He stated that Holland supports Serbia in other ways, through bilateral support programmes, and stressed that Serbia should use the pre-accession period to prepare as best it can for EU membership.

Dragoljub Micunovic said that Serbia is doing all in its power to soon unfreeze the Stabilisation and Accession Agreement, and that the parliament fully supports the state authorities’ efforts to fulfill all the conditions on Serbia’s road of European integration. He also spoke in favour of forging better overall relations between Serbia and Holland, and of closer cooperation with the Dutch Parliament through exchange of parliamentary delegations and visits of foreign affairs committees.

In the meeting, the newly-appointed Italian Ambassador to Serbia emphasised how important cooperation between the governments and parliaments of the two countries is for Italy. He stressed that Italy wants Serbia to become a European Union member and is actively encouraging Serbia on its road to Euro-integration.

Micunovic recalled the Italian Government’s assistance in the renovation of the National Assembly building and stressed the importance of friendship groups and exchange of visits of foreign affairs committees for the development of parliamentary diplomacy. Ambassador Vаrricchio announced an imminent formation of a friendship group with Serbia at the Italian Parliament, which shall contribute to strengthen the cooperation between the two parliaments.
