Today at the National Assembly House, the Chairman of the Committee on Development and International Economic Relations, Milos Jevtic, talked to a delegation of the Islamic Republic of Iran comprising MP Hasan Khasteband, Secretary of the Economic Committee of the Iranian Parliament and member of the Economic Council of the Iranian province of Zanjan Abdolreza Etemdrad, and Vice President of the Iranian Chamber of Commerce Ebrahim Jamili.

Both sides expressed a wish to further overall cooperation between Serbia and Iran, particularly in the sphere of economy. To that end, it was estimated that the two countries’ respective chambers of commerce should quickly define the priorities of future cooperation and specific projects, primarily in the spheres of industry, energy production, agriculture and other economic branches. The members of the Iranian delegation stressed that their country wishes to foster good relations with Serbia which has an important position in the Balkans. They pointed out the need to intensify inter-parliamentary cooperation via the Iranian Parliament’s friendship group with Serbia, cooperation between committees and parliamentary delegations.

Since Iran is a country abounding in natural resources, Committee Chairman Milos Jevtic pointed out Serbia’s interest in strengthening economic cooperation with this country. With this in mind he stressed that the two countries’ governments should first remove the remaining obstacles to cooperation, and their parliamentarians should provide the legal framework for the improvement of economic cooperation between Serbia and Iran.

Jevtic said that a friendship group with Iran had been created at the National Assembly and thanked the delegation for the invitation to visit Iran.
