The Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee, Prof. Dr Dragoljub Micunovic received today at the National Assembly House the delegation of the Republic of Korea headed by Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Shin Kak-soo.

Delegation head Shin Kak-soo stressed that the visit aims to improve overall relations between the two countries, particularly in the sphere of economy. According to him, the Republic of Korea views the world economic crisis as a big challenge that calls for new adjustments to the difficult conditions on the world market.

Chairman Micunovic believes that the relations between the two countries are characterised by good understanding, and added that Serbia is interested in improving its trade with, above all its export into, the Republic of Korea. He particularly stressed the importance of parliamentary cooperation between the two countries and exchange of parliamentary delegations, which could be of great assistance to official diplomacy since parliamentary contacts are more direct and enable an easier exchange of ideas. That is why a Friendship group with the Republic of Korea was formed at the National Assembly, advocating an intensification of inter-parliamentary cooperation and raising it to a higher level.

Both sides deemed that in addition to the good cooperation between the two countries on a political and economic level, cultural cooperation should be intensified which can contribute to a better understanding and strengthening the ties between the two geographically distant countries.
