Brnabic Ends Visit to Rome with Meeting with Chamber of Deputies President Fontana

National Assembly Speaker Ana Brnabic ended her visit to Italy today with a meeting with the President of the Chamber of Deputies Lorenzo Fontana, at whose invitation she came to visit Rome.

"We agreed that for the further strengthening of our parliamentary relations, it would be useful to continue the cooperation between the National Assembly’s European Integration Committee and the Committee for European Policies of the Italian Chamber of Deputies and Senate, as well as good communication within the parliamentary dimension of the Council of Europe, OSCE, Inter-Parliamentary Union, CEI and other organizations and initiatives," said Brnabic.

She said that Serbia is very grateful for the support provided to it by Italy on the way to full membership in the European Union.

"We believe that the integration of the Western Balkans into the Union as soon as possible is a guarantee for the prosperity and stability of both our region and Europe as a whole," said Brnabic.

After the meeting with Fontana, Brnabic said in a statement to the media that Italy, along with Hungary, most advocates Serbia's European integration, adding that they are going directly and proactively from member state to member state of the European Union, saying that it is necessary and high time for Serbia to open Cluster 3.

Brnabic also said that she expected that the first contracts will be signed with Italian universities such as Luiss and Bocconi, in 2025, to allow them to open branches in Serbia.

She began her one-day visit to Rome with a meeting with the Chairman of the Committee on Foreign and EU Affairs of the Chamber of Deputies of the Italian Parliament Giulio Tremonti.

Brnabic also met with the Chairperson of the Italian Senate’s Foreign Affairs and Defence Committee Stefania Craxi, and pointed out that the two countries continue to work on furthering their relations within the framework of parliamentary institutions.

She also met with the Deputy Rector of Luiss "Guido Carli" University Antonio Majocci, with whom she discussed the university’s potential cooperation with our country, and she also spoke with representatives of the Italian Confindustria.

The delegation, headed by the National Assembly Speaker, included Deputy Speaker and Chairperson of the Foreign Affairs Committee Marina Ragus, Deputy Speaker and Chairperson of the European Integration Committee Elvira Kovacs and Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Italy and the Holy See, Jovan Palalic.
