45th Sitting of the Foreign Affairs Committee

At the sitting held on 25 May 2026, the members of the Foreign Affairs Committee spoke with the ambassadors of the MIKTA countries - the United Mexican States, the Republic of Indonesia, the Republic of Korea, the Republic of Turkey and Australia, to the Republic of Serbia. The officials discussed the potential and various forms of cooperation between the National Assembly and the MIKTA countries on topics of mutual interest.


The ambassadors of the MIKTA countries briefly introduced their group of countries, which was formed in 2013 and brings together five countries that come from different cultures and regions, but share basic values and similarities such as democracy, an open economy with strong growth rates and a significant level of economic power. One of the key roles of the MIKTA countries is strengthening and demonstrating the value of the multilateral system. The current chairman is Australia. The ambassadors emphasised the importance of cooperation with Serbia, as another democratic country with a free market. Potential areas for cooperation and exchange of experiences were also discussed, in the field of new information technologies, energy, climate change, cooperation in the field of agriculture, trade, investment, as well as issues such as gender equality and cooperation in the field of education.

Committee Chairperson Marina Ragus underlined the importance of meetings such as this one, which offer the potential for further development of partnership and friendly relations, and also provide an opportunity for the wider public to become familiar with the MIKTA group of countries and its work. She urged for intensifying cooperation in the coming period, on topics that will develop the foundations of cooperation, friendly relations, rapprochement between the MIKTA countries and Serbia, as well as exchange of experiences regarding important issues for all partner countries.

Both sides pledged to strengthen multilateralism, develop dialogue, advocate for peace, security and protection of international order. It was agreed to organize meetings on specific topics of interest to all parties in the coming period.

The following Committee members also participated in the discussion: Natasa Jovanovic, Dunja Simonovic Bratic, Elvira Kovacs, Vladimir Djordjevic and Dobrica Veselinovic.

Pursuant to item 21 of the Decision on the Handling of Confidential Data, the sitting was closed to the public.

The sitting was chaired by Committee Chairperson Marina Ragus.
