20th Annual Session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly in Belgrade Ends

On the closing day, at the plenary session, the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly adopted the Belgrade Declaration. Parliamentarians from 53 countries voted on the Declaration which incorporated the Resolution on Combat against Illicit Human Organ Trafficking.

With an eye toward strengthening the OSCE’s effectiveness and efficiency, which was the topic of this year’s 20th Session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly in Belgrade, the Belgrade Declaration contains recommendations covering political issues and security, economic issues, science, technology and the environment, democracy and human rights, human organ trafficking, trafficking in human beings, as well as liberties and internet security.

In the course of the plenum the parliamentarians re-elected Petros Efthymiou OSCE PA President, while Portuguese Member of Parliament Joao Soares was appointed special representative for the South Caucasus, as well as the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

Closing the anniversary session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, President Efthymiou extended his gratitude for the exceptional hospitality, commending the National Assembly’s successful organisation of the five-day conference. Efthymiou thanked all who worked on the organisation of the gathering, particularly the head of the National Assembly’s standing delegation to the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Suzana Grubjesic.
