Women’s Parliamentary Network’s Working Meeting

The members of the Women’s Parliamentary Network headed by coordinator Marija Janjusevic met with John Clayton, Head of the OSCE Democratization Department, to discuss the state-of-play on the ongoing cooperation and plans for the and future.

MPs Dubravka Filipovski, Marija Obradovic, Stefana Miladinovic, Marija Janjusevic and Natasa Mihailovic Vacic explained what the Network had helped achieve such as the gender responsive budgeting, ratification of the Istanbul Convention, cooperation with women at the local level and enhancing their political visibility, as well as the introduction of the quota system at the National Assembly.

They also listed the Women’s Parliamentary Network’s five objectives - increased political participation of women, women’s health, combating violence against children and women, economic empowerment of women and their education.

Clayton praised the work of the Women’s Parliamentary Network saying that it is both visible and recognized across the Balkans and abroad, as evidenced by the establishment of women’s networks in 14 European countries.

The officials also spoke about the Sixth National Conference of Women scheduled for November and the objectives for the coming year – introducing gender responsive budgeting at the local level with a special focus on women in rural areas.
