Twenty-First Sitting of the Gender Equality Committee
At the sitting held on 13 April, the Gender Equality Committee considered and adopted the Gender Equality Directorate’s and Gender Equality Council’s 2010 Activity Plans.

Presenting the Gender Equality Directorate’s work plan for this year, its Director Natalija Micunovic highlighted the importance of establishing mechanisms for the implementation of the Gender Equality Law and promotion of said law, as well as preparation of by-laws. In the second half of the year, the Government is expected to pass an Action Plan for the implementation of the Strategy for the improvement of the position of women and improvement of gender equality for the period from 2008 to 2014, as well as to draft projects to monitor its implementation, the Director said. She also announced the activities planned for harmonising the Gender Equality Law with European Union legislation.
Secretary Dragana Petrovic talked about the work plan of the Government’s Gender Equality Council. Among its most important tasks she listed raising awareness on the importance of gender equality and fighting gender based stereotypes, strengthening state institutions for the realisation of gender equality policies and introduction of gender equality into the entire legislation.

At the sitting, the Committee also adopted a decision severely condemning deputy Velimir Ilic’s verbal abuse of deputy Jelena Trivan in TV show “Upitnik”, broadcasted on 12 April by the RTS Public Service.
The sitting was chaired by Bojana Stanojevic, Committee Deputy Chairperson.
