Turkish Grand National Assembly Speaker Mustafa Şentop Visits Serbia

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Dr Vladimir Orlic met today with the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of the Republic of Turkey Mustafa Şentop, currently in official visit to Belgrade as part of the delegation participating in the 60th Plenary Session General Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (PABSEC).

At the closing ceremony of the General Assembly, Dr Orlic passed the chairmanship of the PABSEC General Assembly to Şentop, which he congratulated him on in the course of the the meeting and expressed confidence in the success and significant results the next host would contribute to the Organisation and its future work.

The officials agreed that the bilateral relations between the two countries are at the highest level in modern history, which was achieved thanks to mutual respect and trust at all levels, as well as the exceptional personal relationship between the presidents of the Republic of Serbia and the Republic of Turkey, Aleksandar Vucic and Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, whose the visit to Belgrade in September was a strong impulse to strengthen overall relations.

The parliament speakers also expressed determination to continue improving parliamentary cooperation at all levels, primarily through the activities of the parliamentary friendship groups in both in the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia and the Grand National Assembly of the Republic of Turkey.

The meeting was also attended by National Assembly deputy speakers Sandra Bozic and Usame Zukorlic, as well as Muamer Bacevac, Head of the PFG with the Republic of Turkey, who expressed their commitment and willingness to strengthen contacts between the two parliaments.

They also agreed to continue working on the intensification of economic cooperation and, in that context, Dr Orlic praised all the past investments of the Republic of Turkey, especially those that contributed to the reduction of unemployment and progress of less developed parts of Serbia.

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia emphasised the importance of the role of the Republic of Turkey for the continued development of capital infrastructure projects, which are important not only for Serbia, but for the entire region. "We are firmly convinced that, with joint efforts and determination, we will continue to develop and strengthen our cooperation in all areas of mutual interest, for the benefit of our countries and our peoples," concluded Dr Orlic.

After the meeting, the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia and the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of the Republic of Turkey held a joint press conference.
