Students of Denmark’s VIA University College Visit National Assembly

Students of the Danish VIA University College visited the National Assembly today and talked with the member of the European Integration Committee Dubravka Filipovski about the European integration of Serbia.

Filipovski welcomed the students to Serbia and the National Assembly and informed them about the work of the highest legislative body in our country. She pointed out that, although our country’s European integration process has been taking such a long time, the process of association and full membership in the EU remains its strategic commitment and chief foreign policy goal. Serbia’s main priorities in this process are the harmonisation of domestic legislation with the EU acquis, continuation of the dialogue with Pristina, strengthening regional cooperation and stability and, above all, continuation of the reform processes in society and the state, stressed Filipovski. She welcomed the European Growth Plan for the Western Balkans, which should enable countries that are not members of the EU to feel the benefits of membership in it even before accession.

Filipovski and the Danish students, led by Professor Carsten Jacobsen, discussed Serbia’s main challenges in the EU accession process, the effects of the dialogue with the highest European and EU officials, the bilateral relations between Serbia and Denmark and the possibilities of their improvement, Serbia's relations with friendly countries such as the Russian Federation and the People's Republic of China, adjusting our country's foreign policy with the EU's foreign policy, supporting the citizens of Serbia in the accession process, and more.

"We are one of the oldest European countries and our place is in the EU. Over 80% of our economic cooperation takes place with EU countries and countries in the region. Although there are numerous challenges in the EU regarding enlargement and the fact that it is not high on the European agenda, Serbia remains committed to its goal - full membership in the EU," concluded Filipovski.
