Student Parliament Session “Small Steps, Big Moves: Volunteering Connects!”

In the National Assembly House, student parliament session "Small steps, big moves: Volunteering connects!" was traditionally opened today, as part of the Children's Week 2024 Children's Programme, under the auspices of the Ministry of Family Care and Demography.

On behalf of the National Assembly Speaker and in her own name, the students were welcomed by Zagorka Aleksic, Deputy Chairperson of the Committee on the Rights of the Child, who solemnly opened the Student Parliament session stressing that in this way, the National Assembly wants to highlight the importance and contribute to the strengthening of the Student Parliament as one of the forms of children's participation in decision-making. "I am extremely glad that today's Student Parliament session entitled "Small steps, big moves: Volunteering connects!", is dedicated to the significance and importance of connecting generations for the improvement of social wellbeing and that all of you present here, as representatives of student parliaments from all over Serbia, will debate on this important topic following the rules of parliamentary procedure, like in an actual parliamentary session", said Aleksic. “I welcome the fact that you attach great importance to this topic and that today, during your session, you will lead a debate, exchange experiences, and draw attention to the possible challenges and problems you have identified", said Aleksic. She pointed out that by participating in the work of the Student Parliament, in addition to the opportunity for active involvement in decision-making, the students will also have the opportunity to acquire the knowledge and skills essential for the development of democratic culture, such as cooperation and teamwork, tolerance and acceptance of differences, decision-making and respect for different opinions.

"In addition to the many advantages of the right to taking active part in making decisions that concern you, it is up to you to use that right to increase your influence on what happens to you and around you, and it is up to the public authorities and society to help and support you. I am sure that the conclusions you make in today's Student Parliament session will make a significant contribution to the improvement and better understanding of the topic of volunteering among young people", finished the Deputy Chairperson of the Committee on the Rights of the Child her address and wished the students a fruitful’ debate.

Besides by the Deputy Chairperson of the Committee on the Rights of the Child, the students were also addressed by the State Secretary of the Ministry of Family Care and Demography, Rados Pejovic, and the Director of Friends of Children of Serbia, Iva Erakovic.
