Seventh Sitting of the Committee on the Rights of the Child
At the sitting held on 9 October, the members of the Committee on the Rights of the Child deliberated on the Bill on the Confirmation of the Convention on Jurisdiction, Applicable Law, Recognition, Enforcement and Co-operation in respect of Parental Responsibility and Measures for the Protection of Children.
Committee Chairperson Maja Gojkovic underlined the importance of ratifying the Convention, adding that all the EU member states, except for Italy, had already done so.
Committee member Milanka Jeftovic Vukojicic said that the ratification of the Convention is an important element in the process of harmonisation of the national legislation with the EU acquis, adding that it put the child’s best interest in the parent-child relationship in focus.
The Committee members unanimously decided to propose that the National Assembly accept the Bill on the Confirmation of the Convention on Jurisdiction, Applicable Law, Recognition, Enforcement and Co-operation in respect of Parental Responsibility and Measures for the Protection of Children.
The sitting was chaired by Committee Chairperson Maja Gojkovic.
