Serbian and Egyptian Parliament Speakers Unveil Egyptian Street Plaque

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Dr Vladimir Orlic and the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Arab Republic of Egypt Dr Hanafy Ali El-Gebaly, currently in official visit to the Republic of Serbia, ceremonially unveiled the plaque with the name Egyptian Street in Belgrade today.

In their address to the gathered media, the heads of parliaments jointly assessed that today's ceremony seals the strong friendship between the two countries and two peoples, their mutual support, respect and trust.

"This street is part of the future of Belgrade, a city that is rapidly being built and modernized, that has after many decades welcomed its own ring road, is home of the magnificent Belgrade Waterfront and is building a completely new complex to welcome the world as the host of EXPO 2027. Egypt is today an example of construction as well, of impressive roads and completely new cities. This would not be possible in Egypt or in Serbia without strong leadership, committed work and concern for the people. It will be our pleasure to commemorate the future victories of both Serbia and Egypt on this street, as well as in many other places, and to celebrate each of our new successes and progress. And in that future, just like today, we will stand together - as true and good friends," said Dr Orlic.

Speaker Gebaly said out that today's ceremony is a reflection of history, as well as the reality of the deep-rooted relations between Egypt and Serbia. "I most sincerely hope that we will maintain the level of historical and strong friendship that unites us, that we will continue build and improve our relations - for the benefit of our two countries and our two peoples," said Speaker Gebaly, once again expressing satisfaction and pride at the realisation of his visit to the friendly Republic of Serbia.

Nikola Nikodijevic, President of Belgrade City Assembly, addressed the gathering, saying that today's ceremony symbolically confirms the importance Serbia attaches to the ties with Egypt, as well as its readiness to improve cooperation between the two capitals, which will further strengthen interstate relations in the future.

Serbian MPs, members of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Egypt also attended the ceremony of the unveiling the plaque with the name Egyptian Street.
