Serbian National Assembly Speaker Passes PABSEC Presidency to Turkish Grand National Assembly Speaker

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia and President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (PABSEC) Dr Vladimir Orlic closed the 60th PABSEC General Assembly, attended by representatives of the parliaments of all 13 PABSEC member states and hosted by the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia for the third time.

Congratulating and thanking the participants for their efforts in making sure the PABSEC General Assembly is conducted in constructive cooperation and discussion, Dr Orlic noted the concrete contributions that resulted in the adopted documents. "We discussed the challenges and perspectives of cooperation in the field of agriculture after the pandemic, the role of parliaments in stimulating foreign investments and the social impact of the refugee crisis in BSEC member states. Everything we adopted is of great importance for future work," said Dr Orlic.

He announced that PABSEC would continue to deal with important issues, with a focus on the role of parliaments in strengthening energy security and economic security. Concluding the session, he reaffirmed the commitment of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia to further intensification of parliamentary cooperation not only within the PABSEC, but also in the wider Black Sea region. "I am looking forward to our next gathering," said the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia.

With the symbolic act of handing over the gavel to the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of the Republic of Turkey Mustafa Şentop, Dr Orlic also handed over the chairmanship of the PABSEC General Assembly to the Republic of Turkey, wishing the next host success and expressing his belief that Speaker Şentop’s experience of would yield significant results in all issues of importance for the Organisation.

The Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of the Republic of Turkey presented the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia with the PABSEC Medal of Honour for his personal contribution to the improvement of interparliamentary cooperation in the Black Sea region.
