Serbian National Assembly Speaker Meets with Algerian People's National Assembly Speaker

In the course of his official visit to Algeria, the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Dr Nebojsa Stefanovic met with the Speaker of the Algerian People's National Assembly Mohamed Larbi Ould Khelifa.


The officials agreed that economic cooperation and trade between the two countries and should be boosted, opining that both sides are willing to continue deepening parliamentary cooperation.

Speaker Stefanovic stressed that Serbia considers Algeria one of its most important partners in the wider regional framework. He opined that the two countries’ bilateral relations are traditionally good, but that there is room for improvement particularly in the scopes of economic cooperation which Serbia believes to be the basis of future development, as well as cooperation in the spheres culture, water management, defence industry, agriculture and tourism. Stefanovic emphasised the importance of interparliamentary cooperation, such as exchange between parliamentary committees, for regional integration, improvement of bilateral and multilateral cooperation and overall stability and development, as well as the increased importance of parliamentarism for popular representation which proves to be a global trend.

The Speaker of the Algerian People's National Assembly Mohamed Larbi Ould Khelifa spoke of the friendly relations between Serbia and Algeria dating back to the times of Yugoslavia. He said he hoped for a future deepening of economic cooperation between the two countries mainly because of the excellent experts coming from Serbia. Speaker Khelifa said that Serbia and Algeria should continue to work toward developing better overall relations and cooperation between the two countries.

The Serbian National Assembly Speaker thanked the Speaker Algerian People's National Assembly for Algeria’s principled decision not to recognise the unilaterally declared independence of Kosovo-Metohija.
