Serbia and Poland Confirm High Level of Parliamentary Cooperation

The Parliamentary Friendship Group with Poland received a delegation of the Polish Parliamentary Friendship Group with the Balkan Region, headed by Tomasz Glogowski.

The Head of the PFG with Poland, Ana Miljanic, underlined the importance of today's meeting as an opportunity to further enhance the already good bilateral relations. She particularly emphasised the quality of interparliamentary cooperation, which is very intensive, as evidenced by a series of parliamentary visits and meetings.

She cited the Global Conference of Women Parliamentarians of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, which will be held in April of this year, as the next opportunity to strengthen cooperation, and expressed her satisfaction that the Polish delegation will also participate.

Miljanic stressed that full membership in the European Union is Serbia's main strategic interest and thanked Poland for its support in that process. She expressed hope that, according to the plan, Serbia will be technically ready to open all negotiation process clusters by the end of 2026.

She also stressed that Serbia is committed to the normalisation of relations with Pristina, with the aim of ensuring peace and stability in the entire region, emphasising that Serbia respects and upholds international law and expects Europe and the world not to apply double standards on this issue. She expressed concern about the extremely difficult situation that Serbs face every day on the territory of Kosovo-Metohija.

In support of this, Danijela Nikolic, member of the PFG with Poland, said that in the past two years, as many as 700 ethnically motivated attacks have been recorded on the territory of Kosovo-Metohija.

Glogowski stressed the Parliamentary Friendship Group with the Balkan Region attaches particular importance to cooperation with the countries of the region, especially with Serbia as the largest country in the region whose good relations with the European Union are a guarantee of stability for the entire Western Balkans.

He expressed dissatisfaction with the stalled negotiation process and stressed that Poland strongly supports Serbia's membership in the European Union and the opening of the clusters as soon as possible.

The officials agreed that economic cooperation is of exceptional importance for both countries, but that there is also room to improve cooperation in terms of investment, as well as strengthen ties in the spheres of education, culture, sports and science.

The meeting was also attended by PFG members Danijela Nikolic, Olja Petrovic and Marko Milosevic who actively participated in the constructive discussion.
