Ruling Majority MPs Meet with Venice Commission Members

MPs of the parliamentary majority had an online meeting with members of the Venice Commission, with whom they exchanged opinions on the Draft Law on the Judicial Academy.

In his introductory speech, the Chairman of the Committee on the Judiciary, Public Administration and Local Self-Government, Ugljesa Mrdic, explained the key points of the Draft Law and invited members of the Venice Commission to ask questions and express their opinions on the proposed document.

National Assembly Deputy Speaker and Chairperson of the European Integration Committee, Elvira Kovacs, said that the law is still in draft form and as such has not entered parliamentary procedure, adding that the parliamentary majority is aware of its importance for the European integration process which our country is engaged in.

The members of the Venice Commission asked a number of questions about the Draft Law and, in discussions with MPs, considered the best possible legal solutions that would, as they agreed, be beneficial to both the citizens and the judicial system of the Republic of Serbia.

MPs Branimir Jovanovic, Dubravka Kralj Jokic, Zivota Starcevic, Ilo Mihajlovski and Lidija Sarac took active part in the meeting through discussion and questions.

The meeting concluded with an agreement to continue cooperation and further exchange of opinions with the aim of improving the proposed legislation.
