Publication Presented on 25 Years of Diplomatic Relations between Order of Malta and Serbia

The National Assembly’s Parliamentary Friendship Group with Italy, the Holy See and the Sovereign Military Order of Malta, in cooperation with the Embassy of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta in the Republic of Serbia, organised the presentation of the publication "Under the banner of humanitarian diplomacy: 25 years of diplomatic relations between the Order of Malta and Serbia".

The Head of the PFG with Italy, the Holy See and the Sovereign Military Order of Malta, Jovan Palalic, highlighted the importance of the long-standing relations between Serbia and the Order of Malta, stressing that they are based on the shared values of humanity, solidarity and mutual respect.

"These times urge us to strengthen our close ties. The publication states that any relationship between states is created by a formal act, but survives only if it is supported by a certain vision of the world. The policy of dialogue in times of conflict, understanding instead of struggle for supremacy, support for world peace and the establishment of a just order based on international law represents a common basis for the further strengthening of cooperation," said Palalic.

He added that multilateralism and different forms of relations between states are a characteristic not only of humanitarian diplomacy and the identity of the Order of Malta, but also of the contemporary foreign policy of the Republic of Serbia.

"It is precisely on these foundations, I am convinced, that we can build even stronger and more fruitful relations in the coming period," said Palalic.

The Ambassador of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta to the Republic of Serbia, Francesco Maria Amoruso, said that the decision to mark the anniversary in the National Assembly gives this event special significance, as it testifies to the value of the relationships built over the last 25 years and the importance of dialogue between institutions as one of the pillars of mutual understanding and cooperation.

The publication traces a history of friendship, respect and cooperation based on shared values, respect for human dignity, solidarity with the most vulnerable and commitment to peace.

Minister of Culture Nikola Selakovic stressed that publications of this kind play an important role in fostering a culture of remembrance, as well as in promoting books as guardians of knowledge, memory, and values of a society.
