Parliament Speakers of EU Candidate Countries Sign Belgrade Declaration
Today, at a conference held in Belgrade, the speakers of the parliaments of candidate countries for membership in the European Union (EU) adopted the Belgrade Declaration on Parliamentary Cooperation and the European Future of the Candidate Countries for Membership in the EU.
In the declaration, they confirmed their commitment to the principles of the United Nations Charter, including respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states, in accordance with international law, as well as their commitment to European values.
At the meeting held in the National Assembly House, they discussed the topics of establishing a permanent mechanism for cooperation between parliaments of EU candidate countries, establishing a regular format for cooperation between parliament speakers, exchanging experiences and good practices, as well as opportunities for launching joint initiatives and coordinating activities. The result of these discussions was the adoption of the Belgrade Declaration on Parliamentary Cooperation and the European Future of the Candidate Countries for Membership in the European Union.
After the meeting, the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Ana Brnabic, and the Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Ruslan Stefanchuk, addressed the media.
