The Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Uzbekistan, Aleksandar Markovic, and the PFG members, met, in the National Assembly House, with a delegation of the Senate of the Republic of Uzbekistan, headed by Erkin Gadoyev, co-chair of the parliamentary forums.
Aleksandar Markovic stressed that Serbia and Uzbekistan enjoy traditionally friendly relations, recalling that last year marked 30 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Speaking about the importance of parliamentary cooperation, Markovic highlighted the MPs’ readiness to further improve contacts with their colleagues from Uzbekistan, both through the activities of parliamentary friendship groups, and through more intensive cooperation between the committees and other working bodies of the two parliaments. He said that parliamentary diplomacy is an important instrument for strengthening overall bilateral relations.
The PFG Head also thanked Uzbekistan for its consistent support for Serbia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, as well as for its non-recognition of the unilaterally declared independence of the so-called Kosovo.
Erkin Gadoyev pointed to the great potential for further development of bilateral relations between the two friendly countries. He particularly emphasised that the intensification of interparliamentary dialogue is a key mechanism for strengthening the overall political and institutional ties between Serbia and Uzbekistan.
The officials agreed that there is room to further strengthen cooperation and develop the partnership between the two countries, especially in the fields of agriculture, education, economy, culture and communications, with an emphasis on the traditional friendship, mutual respect and shared commitment to improving bilateral relations.
The meeting was also attended by PFG members Stanislava Janosevic, Olivera Denic, Sanja Milosevic, Jasmina Karanac and Milos Gnjidic.
