At the very beginning of the meeting, Olja Petrovic stressed how very pleased she was because of the 80th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. She emphasised that the Republic of Serbia views cooperation with Mexico with exceptional respect, both in the political and cultural spheres.

The PFG Head thanked Mexico for its consistent support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Republic of Serbia, which is reflected in their principled stance against the admission of the so-called Kosovo to international organizations, as well as in the position the country took in the vote on the resolution on Srebrenica in the UN General Assembly. "These attitudes build trust between the countries and confirm that relations between Serbia and Mexico have a solid foundation," said Petrovic.

Ambassador Carlos Felix Corona underlined the exceptional importance of parliamentary diplomacy for the development of bilateral relations, adding that there are no open issues between Serbia and Mexico and emphasising that this fact makes the cooperation between the two countries strong and stable. He also stressed that Mexico is a reliable partner and friend to Serbia, and that this strong friendship represents a bridge we should work together to improve.

The officials agreed that the fact that one of the central streets in Mexico City is named after Belgrade, as well as the fact that there is a Mexican street in the centre of Belgrade, is the confirmation of this great friendship.

The meeting was attended by PFG members Vesna Nedovic, MA Svetlana Milijic, Milos Gnjidic, Ana Ivanovic, Aleksandar Markovic and MA Danijela Nikolic, who took the opportunity to express their gratitude to Mexico for respecting international law and to point out the difficult position of the Serbian people on the territory of Kosovo-Metohija, as well as the threat to Serbian cultural heritage in the area of our southern province.
