PFG with Czech Republic Receives Czech Foreign Minister

The Head and members of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with the Czech Republic met with the delegation of the Czech Republic headed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Jan Lipavsky.

The Head of the PFG with the Czech Republic Dr Darko Laketic highlighted the traditionally friendly relations between the two countries, announcing that it has been planned to twin several Czech and Serbian cities, as well as draft a monograph "Czechs in Serbia".

"The monograph will talk about doctors and other famous Czechs who helped Serbia during the wars, as well as Serbs who were in the Czech Republic and received important awards there, such as Nikola Tesla, winner of the Order of the White Lion, or Vojislav Stojanovic, winner of the Purkyne award," said Laketic.

The Czech Minister of Foreign Affairs agreed that the relations between the two countries are friendly and long-standing, expressing his satisfaction with both sides’ desire to additionally expand and strengthen them.

He also spoke about economic growth, which is on the rise, saying that last year the trade exchange between the Czech Republic and Serbia amounted to over two million euros and that there is a whole series of Czech investments in Serbia, as well as Serbian companies working in the Czech Republic.

The officials agreed that there the cooperation in terms of transport infrastructure, environmental protection and tourism is excellent, but added that it is always a good idea to nurture visits and lively dialogue, as the best way of understanding and connecting people.

The meeting was also attended by the Serbian Ambassador to the Czech Republic, Dr Berislav Vekic, and Czech Ambassador to Serbia Jan Bondi who expressed their satisfaction with the exceptional cooperation at the level of the embassies, with Ambassador Vekic using the opportunity to talk about the possibility of creating a monograph on the suffering of Serbs far from their homeland in Indrihovica camp.

The meeting was attended by PFG members Darko Jovanovic, Sladjana Susnjar and MP Biljana Jakovljevic.
