National Assembly Deputy Speaker and Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with the People’s Republic of China Marina Ragus and the PFG members, met today, at the National Assembly with the representatives of Chinese Chamber of Commerce in the Republic of Serbia.
The meeting was also attended by the Chinese Ambassador to Serbia Li Ming, as well as representatives of the Innovation Fund.
National Assembly Deputy Speaker Marina Ragus opened the meeting by noting that the cooperation with the People’s Republic of China is entering a new phase, one focusing on biotechnologies, artificial intelligence and modern technologies. She also reminded the attending of the activities of the PFG with China as one of the most active and largest friendship groups in the National Assembly.
The Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China Li Ming stressed that the PFG with China has done a lot to promote the relations between the two countries, adding that thanks to the strategic orientation of the leaders of the two countries, the steely friendship between Serbia and China becomes ever deeper and that he hoped the cooperation between the two countries would expand both in scope and intensity. He also expressed his belief that even more Chinese companies would come and invest in Serbia.
The Ambassador highlighted President Aleksandar Vucic's visit to China in May this year, which further strengthened the comprehensive strategic partnership between Serbia and China, especially cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, science, technology and innovation, which will provide new impetus. He expressed his belief that the cooperation between the two countries will be even more fruitful, and that by joining forces we can contribute to a common future and accelerated technological development, as well as to the deepening of relations between the Republic of Serbia and the People's Republic of China.
The Director of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Yang Dong, emphasised the importance of intensifying cooperation between Serbia and the People's Republic of China in the areas of high technology, artificial intelligence, biotechnology, digital transformation and scientific research projects. It was assessed that there is significant potential for connecting scientific institutions, universities and the economy.
Marina Ragus said that the two presidents have a steely friendship, and that Serbia and the People's Republic of China have built a strong and comprehensive strategic partnership, which has in recent years gained a new dimension through cooperation in the fields of innovation, digitalisation and high technologies.
The National Assembly Deputy Speaker reminded the attending that all the Chinese companies doing business in Serbia operate according to the highest standards, according to EU criteria, and that they are recognisable by their high-quality workforce. Ragus underlined that globally recognised Chinese companies also operate in Serbia, emphasising that thanks to this, Serbia has exports to certain markets, and that thanks to this we can say that we are following a new industrial revolution, especially stressing that during President Aleksandar Vucic's visit to China in May this year, over 30 agreements and memorandums were signed.
The meeting was also attended by Prof. Dr Bojan Lalic, Director of the Belt and Road Institute, as well as representatives of the business community.
The participants of the meeting emphasised that modern technologies and biotechnology represent one of the most important areas for improving economic cooperation between Serbia and the People's Republic of China, as well as an important driver of innovation, economic growth and sustainable development.
They agreed that there is significant room to intensify cooperation between scientific research institutions, higher education institutions and the economy.
