PFG with China Meets with Confucius Institute Professor

The Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with China, Marina Ragus, and the PFG members, met today, in the National Assembly, with Chen Xu, professor at the Confucius Institute in Novi Sad, who introduced them to Confucius' philosophy, the foundation of modern China.

Marina Ragus opined that his teachings are deeply embedded in today's China, a country that has managed to choose the most successful model in the world, and that these are the foundations on which Chinese President Xi Jinping has built his political vision.

Professor Chen Xu reminded that Serbia is the first European country with which China is "building a common future." "This is a cooperation in which both Serbia and China benefit, in peaceful coexistence," she assessed, adding that harmony is the key to this.

Professor Chen Xu explained in detail to the members of the PFG with China the "culture of harmony", which is based on the teachings of Confucius, emphasising that harmony represents the ideal of Confucianism. "Harmony is the ultimate ideal, while goodness and decent behaviour are sub-goals, and moderation is the basic method," Chen Xu explained.

The Confucius Institute was founded in Serbia in 2014 and has 20 partner institutions in six cities in Serbia, where, in the past 12 years, approximately 700 events have been organised. A multi-level education system has been established, and every year around 1,000 students of different ages learn Chinese.

In the course of the meeting, members of the PFG with China learned more about the foundations of Confucius' philosophy. They also discussed possible joint activities with the representative of the Institute, such as organizing a tea festival.
