PFG with China Meets with Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference National Committee Delegation

National Assembly Deputy Speaker and Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with China Marina Ragus, as well as PFG members Vesna Nedovic, Dr Ugljesa Mrdic and Prim. Dr Nada Macura, met today at the National Assembly House with a delegation of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference Committee on Population, Resources and the Environment, headed by Zhang Jinan.

Marina Ragus stressed that in the current geopolitical environment marked by violations of international law and constant threat of conflict, Serbia consistently advocates for peace, respect for the United Nations Charter and the principles of international law. She emphasised that every state has the sovereign right to regulate its internal relations, and reiterated that Serbia strongly supports the "One China" policy.

"We are proud of our comprehensive strategic cooperation with China," she said, recalling that it was achieved back in 2009, but that reached the highest level with the President of the Republic of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic. Ragus also boasted about the fact that China is the second largest investor in Serbia.

Zhang Jinan thanked Serbia for its continued support for China’s integrity, adding that China too fully supports Serbia's territorial integrity and sovereignty.

He informed the hosts about the consultative role of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference Committee on Population, Resources and the Environment, pointing out that issues of demography and environmental protection are of strategic importance for China, as one of the most populous countries.

The officials agreed that deepening cooperation in the areas of demographic policy, birth rate and fertility incentives is of invaluable importance for both countries.

The PFG members opined that China's experiences as regards aligning rapid industrial growth with strict environmental standards and preserving a healthy environment, as well as the application of alternative energy sources and decarbonisation processes, are important for Serbia.
