PFG with Brazil Meets with Brazilian Ambassador to Serbia

The Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Brazil, Olja Petrovic, and the members of the group met with the Ambassador of the Federative Republic of Brazil to the Republic of Serbia, Maria Clara de Abreu Rada.

Olja Petrovic opened the meeting by saying how pleased she was by the exceptionally good bilateral relations between Serbia and Brazil, both political and economic, and adding that the National Assembly remains open to developing parliamentary cooperation. She also stressed that the current legislation’s PFG with Brazil boasts 50 members, which makes it one of the largest friendship groups.

She emphasised that the Republic of Serbia and the Federative Republic of Brazil are connected by traditionally good and friendly bilateral relations, based on mutual understanding and support on issues of priority importance.

The PFG Head stressed that the Republic of Serbia remains committed to preserving peace, as well as to its strategic goal, which is full membership in the European Union.

Petrovic thanked Brazil for the position it took in the UN General Assembly when voting on the resolution on Srebrenica, for its consistent support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Republic of Serbia and its principled position on the issue of Kosovo-Metohija, as well as for its support for international law and the resolution of open issues peacefully and through dialogue.

The Ambassador stressed that Brazil has no intention of changing its principled position and remains consistent in its commitment to respecting international law. She also expressed interest in further strengthening political dialogue at the highest level and improving cooperation on a bilateral and multilateral level.

PFG member Danijela Nikolic specifically referred to the extremely difficult situation the Serbian people in Kosovo-Metohija face every day, living under the terror of the Albin Kurti regime, and informed the attending that there have been 700 ethnically motivated attacks on the Serbian and non-Albanian population in the last four years. She also underlined the fact that the Community of Serb Municipalities has not yet been formed.

MA Jadranka Jovanovic spoke of the cooperation between the two countries in the field of culture and highlighted the extremely friendly relations, emphasising that the people of Serbia and Brazil share the same values, as well as similarities in temperament and character.

The meeting was also attended by members of the PFG with Brazil, who raised several topics of importance for furthering cooperation and ties between the two peoples, as well as exchanging experiences in the field of environmental protection.
