PFG with Benelux Countries Meets with Belgian Federal Parliament Delegation

The Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with the Benelux Countries, Aleksandar Mirkovic, met today, at the National Assembly, with a delegation from the Federal Parliament of Belgium, currently visiting the Republic of Serbia.


Mirkovic welcomed the members of the delegation and emphasised the importance of parliamentary cooperation as a significant segment of the overall bilateral relations between Serbia and Belgium. Emphasising the importance of parliamentary diplomacy, Mirkovic stressed that the PFG with the Benelux remains committed to improving cooperation and strengthening friendly relations between Serbia and Belgium.

Katrijn van Riet, head of the Belgian delegation, underlined the importance of developing parliamentary dialogue, assessing that cooperation between parliaments is the foundation for improving bilateral relations between the Republic of Serbia and the Kingdom of Belgium.

The officials discussed options for intensifying parliamentary dialogue, exchanging legislative drafting experiences, as well as current political and economic topics. They also emphasised the importance of regular communication and exchange of visits for the further development of relations between the two countries.

Speaking about European integration, Mirkovic stressed that the Republic of Serbia, as a candidate country for membership in the European Union, remains committed to the reform process and is working intensively on diplomatic activities aimed at creating conditions for the opening of Cluster 3. The officials exchanged opinions on Serbia's European integration process, regional cooperation, as well as the importance of preserving peace, stability and dialogue in Europe.

They stressed that there is room for further improvement of cooperation at the parliamentary level and expressed their willingness to continue regular contacts with the aim of strengthening friendly relations between Serbia and Belgium.

The meeting was also attended by PFG members Biljana Pantic Pilja, Darko Jovanovic and Djordje Stankovic.
