Ninth Sitting of the Committee on Justice and Administration

At the sitting held on 4 November 2008, the Committee on Justice and Administration discussed the information of the Supreme Court of Serbia and the Decision of the Grand Personnel Council ascertaining mandatory retirement of a judge and ascertained the Proposal of the Decision on the Termination of Judicial Office of Nebojsa Stracevic, judge of the District Court in Sremska Mitrovica.


At the sitting held on 4 November 2008, the Committee on Justice and Administration discussed the information of the Supreme Court of Serbia and the Decision of the Grand Personnel Council ascertaining mandatory retirement of a judge and ascertained the Proposal of the Decision on the Termination of Judicial Office of Nebojsa Stracevic, judge of the District Court in Sremska Mitrovica.

The Committee ruled to forward the Proposal of the Decision to the National Assembly proposing that it be urgently discussed. The Committee members agreed to discuss the bills from the field of justice and administration and the other items on the agenda adopted for the sitting, in the continuation of the sitting, on Monday, 10 November.

In the continuation of the ninth sitting, on 10 and 11 November 2008, the Committee completed the discussion in principle on the seven bills from the field of justice, submitted by the Government, viz. the bills on the Organisation of Courts, on Judges, on the High Judicial Council, on the Public Prosecution, on the State Council of Prosecutors, on Court and Public Prosecutors Seats and Districts, and amending and modifying the Law on Misdemeanours.

The Ministry of Justice representatives elaborated the legal regulations envisaging a reform of the judiciary system and introduction of new standards for the election of judges and prosecutors.

The Committee ruled to propose that the National Assembly adopt in principle all the bills except the Bill on Court and Public Prosecutors Seats and Districts on which the Committee members did not vote due to lack of quorum.

The Committee also discussed and proposed that the National Assembly adopt in principle the Bill amending and modifying the Law on Civil Servants and the Bill on Associations.
