National Assembly Speaker with Newly-Appointed Ambassador of Japan

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Dr Vladimir Orlic received today H.E. Akira Imamura, the newly-appointed Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Serbia.

Wishing Imamura a warm welcome, success in performing his new duties and a pleasant stay in our country, the National Assembly Speaker recalled the traditionally friendly and long relations between the Republic of Serbia and Japan, expressing the Serbian Assembly’s readiness to participate in their further strengthening at all levels.

The officials expressed satisfaction with the fact that Japanese investors have recognised the exceptional business environment in Serbia and are increasingly present on its market. In that regard, Ambassador Imamura welcomed the National Assembly’s activities which further improved the conditions for investing in Serbia, sending a positive and strong signal for new joint projects and future Japanese investments.

The Ambassador said that, during his diplomatic mandate, he would personally contribute to the improvement of the joint work within the initiative for cooperation with the Western Balkans, launched by former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe during his visit to Serbia in 2018.

"Serbia remains committed to the principles of international law, the binding UNSC Resolution 1244, committed to preserving peace and stability for all," said Dr Orlic. He informed the Ambassador about the extremely difficult and dangerous situation in Kosovo-Metohija, caused by Pristina, which has been confirmed and publicly condemned by numerous international officials. He was especially grateful for the fact that Japan is one of the most important donors in our country.

Ambassador Imamura thanked the National Assembly Speaker for the opportunity to talk, saying that during his tenure in Belgrade he would support any initiative for intensifying the exchange of visits between parliamentarians, which will in turn strengthen the overall bilateral relations and cooperation between Serbia and Japan.
