National Assembly Speaker to Open Exhibition Marking 80th Anniversary of National Assembly House

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Maja Gojkovic will be opening an exhibition of aquarelles, photos and furniture to mark the 80th anniversary of the construction of the National Assembly House and the first session held in the new edifice, on Thursday, 20 October, to present the long process of construction and the artistic value of the National Assembly House.


The construction of the representative edifice for the needs of the Kingdom of Serbia began on 27 August 1907 when King Peter I Karadjordjevic laid the cornerstone.

The building was completed on 18 October 1936 and the first session in the new edifice was held on 20 October of the same year.

Because of its important function, connection with historical events, architectural and artistic value, the National Assembly House was declared monument of culture in 1984.
